The Commonwealth of Massachusetts William Francis Galvin, Secretary ofthe Commonwealth Public Records Division Shawn A. Williams Supervisor of Records November 29, 2016 SPR16/1018 Ms. Lorraine A.G. Tarrow, Esq. Assistant Attorney General Office of the Attorney General General Counsel's Office One Ashburton Place Boston, MA 021 08 Dear Attorney Tarrow: I have received the petition of Kenneth E. Reed appealing the failure of the Office of the Attorney General (AGO) to provide a substantive response to an August 31, 2016 request for public records. G. L. c. 66 § 1O (b ); see also 950 C.M.R. 32.08(2). The AGO provided an initial response on September 12, 2016 informing Mr. Reed that the AGO was in the process of searching for records. In his November 11, 2016 petition Mr. Reed stated he had received no other written response from the AGO to his August request. Under the Public Records Law and the Access Regulations (Regulations) all requests for public records must be met with a response within ten (10) days of the request. G. L. c. 66, § 10(b); 950 C.M.R. 32.05. The response may be an offer to provide records, a fee estimate for provision of the records, or a denial. It is my understanding that an attorney on my staff attempted to reach you by telephone regarding this appeal and left a voicemail message. To assist in providing a response my staff provided a copy ofthe appeal file to you via email on November 14,2016. The AGO is advised that it must respond to Mr. Reed's request without delay. This response must be prepared in a manner consistent with this order, the Public Records Law and its Regulations. A copy of any such response must be provided to this office. It is preferable to send an electronic copy of this response to this office at pre@sec.state.ma.us. ours, cc: Kenneth E.
