First Assistant City Attorney City of Lawrence City Hall Room 3 06 200 Common Street Lawrence, MA O1 840 Dear Attorney Ruano: I have received your petition on behalfof the City of Lawrence Police Department (City)· requesting permission to charge for time spent segregating or redacting public records in responding to a request made by Attorney Matthew Andrade. G. L. c. 66, § 10( d)(iv). As required by law, the City provided a copy of this petition to the requester. G. L. c. 66, § 10( d)(iv )(2). Attorney Andrade requested various records concerning a particular school in the City. The request was for "all records of incident reports and/or police reports of any kind, processed by the Lawrence Police Department, which occurred at the school for the time period June 28, 2015 to June 28, 2016." Attorney Andrade indicated the request "includes, but is not limited by" thirteen categories of records, such as investigative reports, interviews, interrogations, evidence collection, witness statements, and phone calls. Subsequent to the opening of this petition, in an email dated May 5, 2017, you indicate "[t]oday, the requester modified their original public records request. Based upon the modification, the City has no responsive documents and therefore the City's petition is moot." Accordingly, I will consider this petition closed. Rebecca S.
