Public Information Officer City of Boston - Office of Emergency Management 1 City Hall Square, Room 204 Boston, MA 02201 Dear Attorney Coakley: I have received the petition of Emily Hopkins of Muckrock appealing the response ofthe City ofBoston Office of Emergency Management (City) to her request for public records. G. L. c. 66 §lOA; see also 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). Specifically, Ms. Hopkins requested copies of records regarding what she described as "ShotSpotter technology" from 2012 through the date the request is fulfilled. The City cited Exemption (f) in denying access claiming the requested records would disclose the number of sensor locations and locations of sensors, including neighborhoods. G. L. c. 4 §7(26)(f). The City's response also indicated that with regards to Incident ID; Date and Time; Type; and Location (Longitude/Latitude), no records exist. Unsatisfied with the City's response, Ms. Hopkins petitioned this office and this appeal was opened as a result. Subsequent to the intervention by a member of the Public Records Division staff, I learned that the City intends on providing Ms. Hopkins with a supplemental response to her request. Accordingly, I will consider this administrative appeal closed with the proviso that the City provide Ms. Hopkins with a response within ten business days. It is preferable to send an electronic copy of this response to this office at pre@sec.state.ma.us. Ms. Hopkins may appeal the substantive nature of the City's response within ninety (90) days.
