The Commonwealth of Massachusetts William Francis Galvin, Secretary of the Commonwealth Public Records Division Rebecca S. Murray Supervisor ofR ecords June 26, 2017 SPR17/851 William Murray Dear Mr. Murray: I have received your petition appealing the response of Department of Correction (Department) to your request for public records. The requirements for an appeal are follows: Such appeal shall be in writing, and shall include a copy of the letter by which the request was made. The Supervisor shall accept an appeal only from a person who had made his or her request in writing. Furthermore, it must be clear to whom the request was made. An oral request, while valid as a public records request pursuant to 950 CMR 32.05 (3), may not be the basis for an appeal under 950 CMR 32.08. Given that a copy of the letter by which the request was made did not include the contact information for the original designee, we are unable to assist you in this appeal at this time. Please feel free to re-submit your appeal when you have detailed who the original recipient of this request was. If you are unable to obtain copies of the required documents, you may make a new request to the Department for the same information. Sincerely, ~~ Rebecca S. Murray Supervisor of Records cc: Kate M.
