The Commonwealth of Massachusetts William Francis Galvin, Secretary of the Commonwealth Public Records Division Rebecca S. Murray Supervisor ofR ecords July 17, 2017 SPR17/966 Steven Silva Superintendent Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center P.O. Box 8000 Shirley, MA 01464 Dear Superintendent Silva: I have received the petition of Tony Gaskins appealing the response of the Department of Correction-Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center (Center) to his request for public records. G. L. c. 66 § lOA; see also 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). Specifically, Mr. Gaskins requested records and financial statements regarding food purchases by the Center. Unsatisfied with the Center's response, which contained redactions without explanation as to why the redactions were made, Mr. Gaskins petitioned this office and this appeal was opened as a result. Subsequent to the intervention by a staff member of the Public Records Division, I learned that a representative from the Center intends on providing Mr. Gaskins with a response that addresses the justification for the redactions. Accordingly, I will consider this administrative appeal closed with the proviso that the Center provide Mr. Gaskins with a response within ten business days. It is preferable to send an electronic copy of this response to this office at pre@sec.state.ma.us. Mr. Gaskins may appeal the substantive nature of the Center's response within ninety days. See 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1 ). Sincerely, Rebecca S.
