The Commonwealth of Massachusetts William Francis Galvin, Secretary of the Commonwealth Public Records Division Rebecca S. Murray Supervisor ofR ecords April 4, 2019 SPR19/0619 James Neville Special Sheriff Duke's County Sherriffs Office 149 Main Street P.O. Box 252 Edgartown, MA 02539 Dear Mr. Neville: I have received the petition of Kade Crockford appealing the nonresponse of the Duke's County Sherriffs Office (Office) to a request for public records. G. L. c. 66, § lOA; see also 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). Specifically, on March 7, 2019, Ms. Crockford requested eight categories of records related to the use of facial-recognition products or services. Subsequent to the intervention by a staff member of the Public Records Division, I learned that the proper agent for handling public record requests never saw the inquiry. Nonetheless, after the Office was made aware of this appeal, a representative within the Office noted their willingness to provide a response. Said response shall be made in accordance with the Public Records Law, its Access Regulations and this order within ten business days. It is preferable to send an electronic copy of this response to this office at pre@sec.state.ma.us. Ms. Crockford may appeal the substantive nature of the Office's response within ninety days. See 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). Sincerely, ~~ Rebecca S.
