The Commonwealth of Massachusetts William Francis Galvin, Secretary of the Commonwealth Public Records Division Rebecca S. Murray Supervisor of Records July 19, 2019 SPR19/1426 Jennifer Berryman Vice Chancellor of Communications University of Massachusetts, Medical School 55 North Lake Avenue Worcester, MA 01655 Dear Ms. Berryman: I have received the petition of Colman Herman appealing the response of the University of Massachusetts' Medical School (School) to a request for public records. G. L. c. 66, § 1O A; see also 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). Specifically, Mr. Herman requested "[r]ecords of all the [expenses] ... incurred" by an identified individual. Unsatisfied with the School's response in which Mr. Herman claims to have only received "summaries of the expenses and not the specific records" he had requested, Mr. Herman petitioned this office and this appeal was opened as a result. Subsequent to the intervention by a staff member of the Public Records Division, I learned that a representative from the School intends on proving a supplemental written response to Mr. Herman aimed at addressing the concern(s) outlined in his latest appeal, as well as any responsive records within their possession. Accordingly, the School is ordered to provide Mr. Herman with a response in accordance with the Public Records Law, its Access Regulations and this order within ten business days. It is preferable to send an electronic copy of this response to this office at pre@sec.state.ma.us. Mr. Herman may appeal the substantive nature of the School's response within ninety days. See 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). Sincerely, ~u~ Supervisor of Records cc: Colman Herman One Ashbmion Place, Room 1719, Boston, Massachusetts 02108 • (617) 727-2832• Fax: (617) 727-5914 sec.state.ma.us/pre• pre@sec.state.ma.us
