Murray S11pe1visor ofR ecords August 28, 2019 SPR19/1746 Brendan Kennedy Deputy Public Information Officer Middlesex County Sherriffs Office 400 Mystic A venue Medford, MA 02155 Dear Mr. Kennedy: I have received the petition of Christine Willmsen of WBUR appealing the nonresponse of the Middlesex County Sherriffs Office (Office) to a request for public records. G. L. c. 66, § lOA; see also 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). Specifically, Ms. Willmsen requested categories ofrecords within the possession of the Office concerning "each death of anyone while in the custody of the Middlesex County Sheriffs Office from 2008-present." Claiming to not yet have received a response, Ms. Willmsen petitioned this office and this appeal was opened as a result. Subsequent to the intervention by a staff member of the Public Records Division, I learned that a representative from the Office intends on providing a written response to Ms. Willmsen, as well as any responsive records within the Office's possession. Accordingly, the Office is ordered to provide Ms. Willmsen with a response in accordance with the Public Records Law, its Access Regulations and this order within ten business days. It is preferable to send an electronic copy of this response to this office at pre@sec.state.ma.us. Ms. Willmsen may appeal the substantive nature of the Office's response within ninety days. See 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1).
