The Commonwealth of Massachusetts William Francis Galvin, Secretary of the Commonwealth Public Records Division Rebecca S. Murray Supervisor of Records July 6, 2020 SPR20/0987 Jennifer M. Staples, Esq. Records Access Officer Massachusetts State Police 470 Worcester Road Framingham, MA 01702 Dear Attorney Staples: I have received the petition of Robert Aldrich appealing the nonresponse of the Massachusetts Department of State Police (Department) to a request for public records. G. L. c. 66, § 10A; see also 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). Specifically, on June 3, 2020, Mr. Aldrich requested a copy of all Police Reports written by three specified State Troopers regarding a certain incident. Claiming to not yet have received a response, Mr. Aldrich petitioned this office and this appeal was opened as a result. Subsequent to the intervention by a staff member of the Public Records Division, I learned that a representative from the Department intends on providing a written response to Mr. Aldrich. Conclusion Accordingly, the Department is ordered to provide Mr. Aldrich with a response made in accordance with the Public Records Law, its Access Regulations as soon as practicable. It is preferable to send an electronic copy of each response to this to this office at pre@sec.state.ma.us. Mr. Aldrich may appeal the substantive nature of the Department’s response within ninety days. See 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1).
