The Commonwealth of Massachusetts William Francis Galvin, Secretary of the Commonwealth Public Records Division Rebecca S. Murray Supervisor of Records July 21, 2020 SPR20/1113 Katherine D. Laughman, Esq. Assistant City Solicitor City of Waltham Law Department 119 School Street Waltham, MA 02451 Dear Attorney Laughman: I have received the petition of Ashley Parent appealing the response of the City of Waltham (City) to a request for public records. G. L. c. 66, § 10A; see also 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). Specifically, on June 8, 2020, Ms. Parent requested two categories of records including “[d]isciplinary actions broken down by race, taken by School Resource Officers (SROs) against students within Waltham Public Schools since 2010…” and “[a]ll complaints against SROs…since 2010.” The City responded on June 22, 2020, with a fee estimate. Unsatisfied with the City’s response, Ms. Parent petitioned this office, and SPR20/1113 was opened as a result. Subsequent to the opening of the appeal, the City provided a supplemental response on July 16, 2020. Whereas the City has sent Ms. Parent a supplemental response addressing issues raised in the appeal, I will consider this appeal closed. Ms. Parent may appeal the substantive nature of the City’s July 16th response within 90 days. See 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). Sincerely, Rebecca S.
