The Commonwealth of Massachusetts William Francis Galvin, Secretary of the Commonwealth Public Records Division Rebecca S. Murray Supervisor of Records December 29, 2020 SPR20/2473 Seah Levy Public Records Access Officer City of Cambridge 795 Massachusetts Avenue Cambridge, MA 02139 Dear Ms. Levy: I have received the petition of Itamer Turner-Trauring appealing the response of the City of Cambridge (City) to a request for public records. G. L. c. 66, § 10A; see also 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). Specifically, on September 24, 2020, Mr. Turner-Trauring requested the records for the date range: September 9, 2020 to September 15, 2020 inclusive as follows: “Set #1 Senders and/or recipients of the email include [named individuals] [and] [a]ny member of the Professional Standards unit. Topics are limited to: [named Lieutenant], cpd496 Twitter account, social media, social media policies, media reports about the Cambridge Police. Set #2 Senders and/or recipients include [named] Lieutenant.” Unsatisfied with the response, Mr. Turner-Trauring appealed and SPR20/2473 was opened as a result. Based upon a conversation between a Public Records Division staff attorney and a City representative, it is my understanding that the City intends on providing a subsequent response to Mr. Turner-Trauring. Accordingly, the City is ordered to provide Mr. Turner-Trauring with a response to his request in a manner consistent with the Public Records Law and its Access Regulations within 10 business days. It is preferable to send an electronic copy of this response to this office at pre@sec.state.ma.us. Mr. Turner-Trauring may appeal the substantive nature of the City's response within ninety days.
