Director Massachusetts Sheriffs’ Association 132 Portland Street, 2nd Floor Boston, Massachusetts 02114 Dear Attorney Hill: I have received the petition of Eliza Kaplan appealing the response of the Massachusetts Sheriffs’ Association (MSA) to a request for public records. G. L. c. 66, § 10A; see also 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). On November 30, 2020, Ms. Kaplan requested “copies of any and all reports filed on behalf of the Massachusetts Sheriffs’ Association or its director with House and Senate Ways and Means Committees in 2020.” The MSA provided responses on December 11, 2020, and December 24, 2020, which included responsive records. Claiming MSA’s response was incomplete, Ms. Kaplan petitioned this office, and SPR21/0438 was opened as a result. Subsequent to the opening of this appeal, the MSA provided a supplemental response on March 2, 2021, indicating they are “continuing to search for the records referenced by Ms. Kaplan in her appeal” and “[d]ue to COVID-19…access to the files have been limited.” Whereas the basis of this appeal was opened as a result of the MSA’s previous responses, I will now consider this administrative appeal closed.
