The Commonwealth of Massachusetts William Francis Galvin, Secretary of the Commonwealth Public Records Division Rebecca S. Murray Supervisor of Records August 3, 2021 SPR21/1817 Stephen G. Roche, Esq. City of Springfield 36 Court Street Springfield, MA 01103 Dear Attorney Roche: I have received the petition of Attorney Arielle Sharma of Lawyers for Civil Rights appealing the response of the Springfield Public Schools (School) to a request for public records. G. L. c. 66, § 10A; see also 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). On June 24, 2021, Attorney Sharma requested, among other items, “[r]ecords reflecting the number of cameras within or on the exterior of each school.” An attorney for the School responded on July 7, 2021, claiming to withhold responsive records pursuant to Exemption (n) of the Public Records Law. Unsatisfied with the School’s response, Attorney Sharma appealed, and this case was opened as a result. Subsequent to the opening of this appeal, I learned that the School responded to Attorney Sharma with a further response dated August 2, 2021. Where the basis of this appeal was opened as a result of the School’s July 7th response, I will now consider this administrative appeal closed. Attorney Sharma may appeal the substantive nature of the School’s response within ninety days. See 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). Sincerely, Rebecca S. Murray Supervisor of Records cc: Arielle Sharma, Esq.
