The Commonwealth of Massachusetts William Francis Galvin, Secretary of the Commonwealth Public Records Division Rebecca S. Murray Supervisor of Records August 23, 2021 SPR21/2025 Gillian Halkett Records Clerk Greenfield Police Department 321 High Street Greenfield, MA 01301 Dear Ms. Halkett: I have received the petition of Catherine M. Scott, Esq. of Morgan Brown & Joy appealing the response of the Greenfield Police Department (Department) to a request for public records. G. L. c. 66, § 10A; see also 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). On June 29, 2021, Attorney Scott requested “[a]ny police log, incident report, police report, or other document pertaining to… [identified person] … [including] but is not limited to, any incident that occurred between May 10, 2021 and May 14, 2021.” The Department responded on August 5, 2021. Unsatisfied with the response, Attorney Scott appealed and this appeal, SPR21/2025, was opened as result. Based upon a conversation between a Public Records Department staff attorney and a Department representative, it is my understanding that the Department intends on providing a subsequent response to Attorney Scott. Accordingly, the Department is ordered to provide Attorney Scott with a response in accordance with the Public Records Law, its Access Regulations and this order within ten business days. It is preferable to send an electronic copy of this response to this office at pre@sec.state.ma.us. Attorney Scott may appeal the substantive nature of the Department’s subsequent response within ninety days. See 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1).
