Legal Counsel Department of State Police Crime Laboratory 124 Acton Street Maynard, MA 01754 Dear Attorney Griffin: On October 15, 2021, I received the petition of Adam Bradley appealing the response of the Department of State Police Crime Lab (Department) to a request of public records. G. L. c. 66, § 10A; see also 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). In a letter dated September 30, 2021, Mr. Bradley requested various records concerning the Department. Previous petition This request was also the subject of an October 15, 2021 petition from the Department. See SPR21/2712 Supervisor of Records Determination (October 22, 2021). In my October 22nd determination, I found that the Department may assess a fee for search, segregation, and redaction. Objecting to the fees, Mr. Bradley petitioned this office and this appeal, SPR21/2920, was opened as a result Based upon a conversation between a Public Records Division staff attorney and a Department representative, it is my understanding that the Department intends on providing a subsequent response to Mr. Bradley. Accordingly, the Department is ordered to provide Mr. Bradley with a response to his request in a manner consistent with the Public Records Law and its Access Regulations within 10 business days. It is preferable to send an electronic copy of this response to this office at pre@sec.state.ma.us. Mr. Bradley may appeal the substantive nature of the Department’s response within ninety days.
