The Commonwealth of Massachusetts William Francis Galvin, Secretary of the Commonwealth Public Records Division Rebecca S. Murray Supervisor of Records December 13, 2021 SPR21/3160 Craig Pedercini Fire Chief Williamstown Fire Department 34 North Street Boston, MA 02110 Dear Chief Pedercini: I have received the petition of Scott McGowan appealing the response of the Williamstown Fire Department (Department) to a request for public records. G. L. c. 66, § 10A; see also 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). On November 16, 2021, Mr. McGowan requested: [1] Any and all records…related to all public records requests received by the District from January 1, 2017, and the time of response to this request; [2] Any and all records…related to any fees charged and collected by the Williamstown Fire District from any public records requests received by the District from January 1, 2017, and the time of response to this request. [3] Any and all records…related to compliance with the changes to the Public Records Law and its Regulations effective January 1, 2017, specific to the Districts designation of a Records Access Officer and where this information is publicly posted from January 1, 2017, and the time of response to this request. The Department provided a response on December 1, 2021. Unsatisfied with the Department’s response, Mr. McGowan petitioned this office and this appeal, SPR21/3160, was opened as a result. Subsequently, I learned that the Department intends on providing a supplementary response to Mr. McGowan. Accordingly, the Department is ordered to provide Mr. McGowan with a written response in accordance with the Public Records Law, its Regulations, and this order within ten business days. It is preferable to send an electronic copy of this response to this office at pre@sec.state.ma.us. Mr. McGowan may appeal the substantive nature of the Department’s response within ninety days.
