The Commonwealth of Massachusetts William Francis Galvin, Secretary of the Commonwealth Public Records Division Manza Arthur Supervisor of Records August 8, 2022 SPR22/1699 Shawn A. Williams, Esq. Director of Public Records Record Access Officer City of Boston One City Hall Square Boston, MA 02201 Dear Attorney Williams: I have received the petition of Allison Jarmanning of WBUR appealing the response of the City of Boston (City) to a request for public records. G. L. c. 66, § 10A; see also 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). On June 27, 2022, Ms. Jarmanning requested, “[c]omplete applications submitted by the four finalists for the job of Boston Police Department commissioner. This would include any resume, cover letter or supplemental materials submitted by the applicants.” Previous appeal This request was the subject of a previous appeal. See SPR22/1592 Determination of the Supervisor of Records (July 25, 2022). The City responded on July 22, 2022. Unsatisfied with the response, Ms. Jarmanning petitioned this office and this appeal, SPR22/1699, was opened as a result. Based upon a conversation between a Public Records Division senior attorney and a City representative, it is my understanding that the City intends on providing a further response to Ms. Jarmanning. Accordingly, the City is ordered to provide Ms. Jarmanning with a response to the request in a manner consistent with the Public Records Law and its Access Regulations within 10 business days. It is preferable to send an electronic copy of this response to this office at pre@sec.state.ma.us. Ms. Jarmanning may appeal the substantive nature of the City's response within ninety days.
