The Commonwealth of Massachusetts William Francis Galvin, Secretary of the Commonwealth Public Records Division Manza Arthur Supervisor of Records October 17, 2022 SPR22/2228 Agapi Koulouris, Esq. General Counsel Department of Criminal Justice Information Services 200 Arlington Street Chelsea, MA 02150 Dear Attorney Koulouris: I have received the petition of Sarah Ryley appealing the nonresponse of the Department of Criminal Justice Information Services (Department) to a request for public records. G. L. c. 66, § 10A; see also 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). On July 26, 2022, Ms. Ryley requested “[r]referrals or notifications, both formal and informal, that the Department has made to the Office of the Attorney General or any law enforcement agency concerning firearms transactions that are potential violations of local, state or federal law, and any subsequent communication about these referrals or notifications.” Claiming to not yet have received responsive records, Ms. Ryley petitioned this office and this appeal, SPR22/2228, was opened as a result. Subsequently, I learned that the Department provided Ms. Ryley with a response dated October 14, 2022. Where this matter was opened based upon the Department’s lack of a written response, I will now consider this administrative appeal closed. Ms. Ryley has appealed the Department’s October 14th response which is in the process of being opened as a separate appeal. Sincerely, Manza Arthur Supervisor of Records cc: Sarah Ryley One Ashburton Place, Room 1719, Boston, Massachusetts 02108 • (617) 727-2832• Fax: (617) 727-5914 sec.state.ma.us/pre • pre@sec.state.ma.us
