The Commonwealth of Massachusetts William Francis Galvin, Secretary of the Commonwealth Public Records Division Manza Arthur Supervisor of Records October 27, 2022 SPR22/2366 Shawn A. Williams, Esq. Director of Public Records Records Access Officer City of Boston One City Hall Square Boston, MA 02201 Dear Attorney Williams: I have received the petition of Nathaniel Adams appealing the nonresponse of the Boston Public Schools (School) to a request for public records. See G. L. c. 66, § 10A; see also 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). On October 3, 2022, Mr. Adams stated: Table 7 in the attached memo produced by BPS shows the % of 7th grade exam school invitations by race for each of the 20-21, 21-22 and 22-23 school years. Can you please provide the same data for exam school applicants in each of those years? Similarly, Table 13 in the memo shows the % of 9th grade exam school invitations by race for each of the 20-21, 21-22 and 22-23 school years. Can you please provide the same data for exam school applicants in each of those years. Claiming to not yet have received responsive records, Mr. Adams petitioned this office and this appeal, SPR22/2366, was opened as a result. Despite being notified of the opening of this appeal, it remains unclear whether the School has provided a response. Accordingly, the School is ordered to provide Mr. Adams with a response to the request, provided in a manner consistent with this order, the Public Records Law and its Regulations within ten (10) business days. A copy of any such response must be provided to this office. It is preferable to send an electronic copy of this response to this office at pre@sec.state.ma.us. Mr. Adams may appeal the substantive nature of the School’s response within ninety (90) days. See 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1).
