Second Associate City Solicitor City of Springfield, Law Department 36 Court Street, Room 210 Springfield, MA 01105 Dear Attorney Roche: I have received the petition of Joseph W. Sleeper appealing the nonresponse of the Springfield Police Department (Department) to a request for public records. G. L. c. 66, § 10A; see also 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). On August 17, 2022, Mr. Sleeper requested “[a]ll police report[s], all citizen [reports], all letters to police concerning possible criminal activity were investigatory efforts. Date of offense: September 7, 1993… ” Claiming to not yet have received a response, Mr. Sleeper petitioned this office and this appeal, SPR22/2367, was opened as a result. Subsequently, I learned that a representative from the Department intends on providing a response to Mr. Sleeper. Accordingly, the Department is ordered to provide Mr. Sleeper with a response in accordance with this order, the Public Records Law, and its Regulations within ten business days. A copy of any such response must be provided to this office. It is preferable to send an electronic copy of this response to this office at pre@sec.state.ma.us.
