The Commonwealth of Massachusetts William Francis Galvin, Secretary of the Commonwealth Public Records Division Manza Arthur Supervisor of Records March 23, 2023 SPR23/0514 Jared A. Silva Senior Policy Analyst Division of Marine Fisheries 836 South Rodney French Boulevard New Bedford, MA 02744 Dear Mr. Silva: On March 16, 2023, this office received your petition on behalf of the Division of Marine Fisheries (Division) seeking permission to charge for time spent segregating or redacting responsive records. G. L. c. 66, § 10(c); G. L. c. 66, § 10(d)(iv); see also 950 C.M.R. 32.06(4). As required by law, the Division furnished a copy of this petition to the requestor. G. L. c. 66, § 10(c); G. L. c. 66, § 10(d)(iv)(2). On March 2, 2023, Richard M. Strahan requested nine categories of records. In an email to the Division and this office on March 17, 2023, Mr. Strahan states that he is “altering [his] above referenced public record request” and provides numerous modifications to narrow the scope of his request. Conclusion In light of the above, it is unnecessary to opine on the Division’s petition for permission to charge for time spent segregating or redacting responsive records. Further, this office encourages Mr. Strahan and the Division to continue to communicate directly in order to facilitate providing records more efficiently and affordably. See G. L. c. 66, § 10(b)(vii). Sincerely, Manza Arthur Supervisor of Records cc: Richard M.
