Cabral Taunton Public Schools 215 Harris Street Taunton, MA 02780 Dear Superintendent Cabral: I have received the petition of Attorney Katherine Stathulis appealing the nonresponse of the Taunton Public Schools (School/District) to a request for public records. See G. L. c. 66, § 10A; see also 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). On February 21, 2023, Attorney Stathulis requested the following records: [1] Each school-related arrest and each referral to law enforcement conducted during the 2018-2019, 2019-2020, 2020-2021, and 2021-2022 school year…[;] [2] School incident reports on each school-related arrest and referral to law enforcement conducted during the 2018-2019, 2019-2020, 2020-2021, and 2021-2022 school year[;] [3] Copy of any active standard operating procedures developed with the police department and/or other law enforcement agencies regarding police placement or activity in your corresponding school[;] [4] Any records instructing or informing police personnel of, or otherwise describing data reporting requirements and procedures for complying with G. Cabral SPR23/0897 Page 2 May 15, 2023 [8] A description of the proposed budget for mental, social or emotional health support personnel for the school district[.] Claiming to not yet have received responsive records, Attorney Stathulis petitioned this office and this appeal, SPR23/0897, was opened as a result. Based upon a conversation between a Public Records Division staff member and a representative of the District, it is my understanding that the District intends on providing a subsequent response to Attorney Stathulis’ request. Accordingly, the District is ordered to provide Attorney Stathulis with said response in a manner consistent with the Public Records Law and its Regulations within 10 business days. It is preferable to send an electronic copy of this response to this office at pre@sec.state.ma.us. Attorney Stathulis may appeal the substantive nature of District’s response within ninety days.
