Lovell Chief of Police 120 Ash Street Danvers, MA 01923 Dear Chief Lovell: On August 24, 2023, this office received your petition on behalf of the Danvers Police Department (Department) seeking an extension of time to produce records and permission to charge for time spent segregating or redacting responsive records. G. L. c. 66, § 10(d)(iv). As required by law, it is my understanding that the Department furnished a copy of this petition to the requestor, Dr. Sudeep Chawla. G. L. c. 66, § 10(d)(iv). On August 10, 2023, Dr. Chawla requested, “copies of the latest car accident reports in Danvers, MA.” In an email dated August 24, 2023, Dr. Chawla stated, “I was inquiring on the process of receiving these records and wouldn’t request anything more than 2 weeks old. This isn’t a formal request but rather understanding the process if I were to do so how to proceed forward.” As Dr. Chawla did not file a public records request, it is unnecessary to opine on the Department’s petition for an extension of time to produce records and permission to charge for time spent segregating or redacting responsive records.
