Hassett Drive Medford, MA 02155 Dear Ms. Spencer: I have received the petition of Mary appealing the response of the City of Medford (City) to a request for public records. See G. L. c. 66, § 10A; see also 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). On November 2, 2023, Mary requested the following: [T]he SeeClickFix and Citizenserve platforms ... publically available statistics on response times to tickets, applications, and complaints. As a bonus it would be great to be able to parce [sic] these records out by type and category. Previous Appeal This request was the subject of a previous appeal. See SPR23/3076 Determination of the Supervisor of Records (January 5, 2024). In my January 5th determination, I closed SPR23/3076 in light of the City’s December 27, 2023 response. Unsatisfied with the City’s response, Mary further appealed, and this case was opened as a result. Based on correspondence included with Mary’s appeal, I understand that the City has suggested potential modifications to the scope of the request. This office encourages Mary and the City to communicate directly in order to facilitate providing records more efficiently and affordably. See G. L. c. 66, § 10(b)(vii) (a municipality shall suggest a reasonable modification of the scope of the request or offer to assist the requestor to modify the scope of the request if doing so would enable the municipality to produce the records sought more efficiently and affordably). Janice Spencer SPR24/0056 Page 2 January 23, 2024 Conclusion Subsequent to the opening of this appeal, based on a telephone conversation between this office and the City on January 22, 2024, I understand that the City intends to provide a further response to Mary. Accordingly, said response must be provided in a manner consistent with the Public Records Law and its regulations within ten business days. It is preferable to send an electronic copy of the response to this office at pre@sec.state.ma.us.
