Riley Keeper of Records Groveland Police Department 181 Main Street Groveland, MA 01834 Dear Lieutenant Riley: I have received the petition of Timothy Nazzaro, of WFXT-Boston 25 News, appealing the response of the Groveland Police Department (Department) to a request for public records. See G. L. c. 66, § 10A; see also 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). On February 29, 2024, Mr. Nazzaro requested “the resignation letter of [a named individual] from her dispatcher position at the Groveland Police Department and a written reason for the resignation if not stated in the letter.” The Department responded on March 4, 2024, denying the request, and claiming that the responsive records were withheld pursuant to Exemption (c) of the Public Records Law. See G. L. c. 4, § 7(26)(c). Unsatisfied with the Department’s response, Mr. Nazzaro appealed, and this case was opened as a result. Subsequent to the opening of this appeal, based on a telephone conversation between this office and the Department on March 12, 2024, I understand that the Department intends to provide a supplemental response to Mr. Nazzaro. Accordingly, said response must be provided in a manner consistent with the Public Records Law and its Regulations within ten business days. A copy of any such response must be provided to this office. It is preferable to send an electronic copy of the response to this office at pre@sec.state.ma.us. If issues remain unresolved, Mr. Nazzaro may appeal the substantive nature of the Department’s supplemental response within ninety days. See 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1).
