Public Records University of Massachusetts Office of the General Counsel One Beacon Street, 31st Floor Boston, MA 02108 Dear Attorney Flaherty: I have received the petition of Kathryn Waters, Esq., of D.S. O’Connor & Associates, P.C., appealing the response of the University of Massachusetts (UMass) to a request for public records. On April 23, 2024, Attorney Waters requested the following records: [1] Any and all documents related to invoices and payments for legal services rendered to the University of Massachusetts by Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky & Poppeo from January 1, 2022 to present; [2] Any and all documents related to invoices and payments for legal services rendered to the University of Massachusetts by Morgan, Brown & Joy from January 1, 2022 to present; [3] Any and all documents related to invoices and payments for legal services rendered to the University of Massachusetts Foundation by Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky & Poppeo from January 1, 2022 to present; [4] Any and all documents related to invoices and payments for legal services rendered to the University of Massachusetts Foundation by Morgan, Brown & Joy from January 1, 2022 to present; [5] Any and all documents related to invoices and payments for legal services rendered to the University of Massachusetts and the University of Massachusetts Foundation by Morgan, Brown & Joy from January 1, 2022 to present; and [6] Any and all documents related to invoices and payments for legal services rendered to the University of Massachusetts and the University of Massachusetts Foundation by Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky & Poppeo from January 1, 2022 to present. SPR24/1415 Page 2 May 23, 2024 UMass responded on May 8, 2024. Unsatisfied with the response, Attorney Waters petitioned this office and this appeal, SPR24/1415, was opened as a result. It is my understanding that UMass intends on providing a further response to Attorney Waters. Accordingly, UMass is ordered to provide Attorney Waters with said response in a manner consistent with the Public Records Law and its Regulations within 10 business days. A copy of any such response must be provided to this office. It is preferable to send an electronic copy of the response to this office at pre@sec.state.ma.us.
