The Commonwealth of Massachusetts William Francis Galvin, Secretary of the Commonwealth Public Records Division Manza Arthur Supervisor of Records June 10, 2024 SPR24/1623 Carole Moore City Clerk City of Newton 1000 Commonwealth Avenue Newton Centre, MA 02459 Dear Ms. Moore: I have received the petition of Mark Sokoll appealing the response of the City of Newton (City) to a request for public records. See G. L. c. 66, § 10A; see also 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). On May 7, 2024, Mr. Sokoll requested: [1] … [T]he names of the people who serve on the committee that chooses art exhibits for the library[; and] [2] Is there any review process by the library leadership, volunteer or professional, of their decisions or do they operate with complete independence and decision-making authority? The City provided a response on May 20, 2024. Unsatisfied with the City’s response, Mr. Sokoll petitioned this office and this appeal, SPR24/1623, was opened as a result. Subsequently, I learned that the City provided Mr. Sokoll with a response dated June 7, 2024. Where this appeal was opened as a result of the City’s May 20, 2024 response, I will now consider this administrative appeal closed. Ms. Sokoll may appeal the substantive nature of the City’s June 7th response within ninety (90) days. See 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1).
