Director of Public Records City of Boston One City Hall Square Boston, MA 02201 Dear Attorney Williams: I have received the petition of Jake Hentoff, Esq., of the Boston Globe Media Partners, LLC, appealing the nonresponse of the City of Boston (City) to a request for public records. See G. L. c. 66, § 10A; see also 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). On July 23, 2024, Attorney Hentoff requested: [1.] GPS data reflecting the geographic data of any Boston police vehicle operated by [an identified individual] on Dec. 7, 2023 [2.] Any overtime slips submitted by [an identified individual] for time worked on Dec. 7. [3.] Any overtime slips signed off on by [an identified individual] for time worked on Dec. 7. [4.] Any documents reflecting calls for a tow, maintenance, or roadside service for any BPD vehicle on Dec. 7, including any documents that include the location of the needed service. [5.] Any and all dashcam footage from any BPD car operated by Lawton on Dec. 7. [6.] Any bodycam footage from [an identified individual] on Dec. 7. [7.] Any internal or citizen complaints about [two identified individuals], any awards and commendations for [two identified individuals], [two identified individuals’] roster cards, and any and all internal affairs files for [two identified individuals]. SPR24/2291 Page 2 August 26, 2024 Claiming to not yet have received responsive records, Attorney Hentoff petitioned this office and this appeal, SPR24/2291, was opened as a result. Despite being notified of the opening of this appeal, it remains unclear whether the City has provided a response. Accordingly, the City is ordered to provide Attorney Hentoff with a response to his request, provided in a manner consistent with this order, the Public Records Law and its Regulations within ten (10) business days. A copy of any such response must be provided to this office. It is preferable to send an electronic copy of the response to this office at pre@sec.state.ma.us.
