Record Access Officer City of Boston One City Hall Square Boston, MA 02201 Dear Attorney Williams: I have received the petition of Laura Ortiz appealing the response of the City of Boston (City) to a request for public records. See G. L. c. 66, § 10A; see also 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). On July 3, 2024, Ms. Ortiz requested, “[1] PRR #R000920-031423, requester date was 3/14/23 we believe requested regarding ‘Ethnic Studies Materials’ for BPS [2] PRR #R003262-090623, requester date was 9/6/23 we believe requested regarding ‘emails and attachments sent or received between January 1,2022 through September 5,2023 and to/from BPD staff: … That mention any of the words or phrases: Israel, Palestine, Palestinians, Zionists, Zionism, Jews, Settler Colonialism/Settler Colonial State, Boycott Divestment Sanction (BDS)[.]” The City provided a response on July 18, 2024. Unsatisfied with the City’s response, Ms. Ortiz petitioned this office and this appeal, SPR24/2349, was opened as a result. Subsequently, I learned the City intends on providing a supplemental response. Accordingly, the City is ordered to provide Ms. Ortiz with said response in accordance with the Public Records Law, its Regulations and this order within ten business days. It is preferable to send an electronic copy of the response to this office at pre@sec.state.ma.us. Ms. Ortiz may appeal the substantive nature of the City’s response within ninety days. See 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1).
