The Commonwealth of Massachusetts William Francis Galvin, Secretary of the Commonwealth Public Records Division Manza Arthur Supervisor of Records September 24, 2024 SPR24/2568 Helena Rafferty Chief of Police Canton Police Department 1492 Washington Street Canton, MA 02021 Dear Chief Rafferty: I have received the petition of Joe Sciacca, of 7NEWS WHDH Boston, appealing the response of the Canton Police Department (Department) to a request for public records. See G. L. c. 66, § 10A; see also 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). On September 11, 2024, Mr. Sciacca requested, “... a copy of the independent investigator’s report in the case of [an identified] Canton Police Det[ective] . . . including all supporting materials and findings as well as the nature of the disciplinary action taken by the town as a result.” The Department responded on September 11, 2024. Unsatisfied with the response, Mr. Sciacca petitioned this office and this appeal, SPR24/2568, was opened as a result. Subsequently, I learned that the Department provided a further response to Mr. Sciacca on September 23, 2024. Where this appeal was opened as a result of the Department’s September 11th response, I will now consider this administrative appeal closed. Mr. Sciacca may appeal the substantive nature of the Department’s September 23rd response within ninety (90) days. See 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). Sincerely, Manza Arthur Supervisor of Records cc: Joe Sciacca One Ashburton Place, Room 1719, Boston, Massachusetts 02108 • (617) 727-2832• Fax: (617) 727-5914 sec.state.ma.us/pre • pre@sec.state.ma.us
