The Commonwealth of Massachusetts William Francis Galvin, Secretary of the Commonwealth Public Records Division Manza Arthur Supervisor of Records October 7, 2024 SPR24/2672 Officer Ronald C. Pucci Dedham Police Department Administrative Services 26 Bryant Street Dedham, MA 02026 Dear Officer Pucci: I have received the petition of Patricia Wen, of Boston Globe Magazine, appealing the response of the Dedham Police Department (Department) to a request for public records. See G. L. c. 66, § 10A; see also 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). On September 19, 2024, Ms. Wen requested “any 911 calls, police reports or other related documents having to do with [a named individual] from 2020 through 2023.” The Department responded on the same day, indicating it was withholding one responsive record. Unsatisfied with the Department’s response, Ms. Wen petitioned this office, and this appeal, SPR24/2672, was opened as a result. Subsequent to the opening of this appeal, based on a telephone conversation between this office and the Department on September 27, 2024, I understand that the Department intends to provide a supplemental response to Ms. Wen. Accordingly, said response must be provided in a manner consistent with the Public Records Law and its Regulations within ten business days. A copy of any such response must be provided to this office. It is preferable to send an electronic copy of the response to this office at pre@sec.state.ma.us. If issues remain unresolved, Ms. Wen may appeal the substantive nature of the Department’s supplemental response within ninety days. See 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1).
