The Commonwealth of Massachusetts William Francis Galvin, Secretary of the Commonwealth Public Records Division Manza Arthur Supervisor of Records January 31, 2025 SPR25/0189 Joanne M. Roomey Paralegal Legal Department City of Salem 93 Washington Street Salem, MA 01970 Dear Ms. Roomey: I have received the petition of Christopher Patzke appealing the response of the City of Salem (City) to a request for public records. See G. L. c. 66, § 10A; see also 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). On November 20, 2024, Mr. Patzke requested “[a]ll minutes and emails pertaining to the ‘joint monthly calls’ with the … ‘Massachusett Tribe at Ponkapoag’.” Prior Appeal This request was the subject of a prior appeal. See SPR25/0120 Determination of the Supervisor of Records (January 15, 2025). In my January 15th determination, I ordered the City to provide a further response to Mr. Patzke. The City provided a response on January 17, 2025. Unsatisfied with the City’s response, Mr. Patzke petitioned this office and this appeal, SPR25/0189, was opened as a result. It is my understanding that the City has conducted a second search for responsive records, and intends on providing a further response to Mr. Patzke. Accordingly, the City is ordered to provide Mr. Patzke with said response, in a manner consistent with this order, the Public Records Law and its Regulations within ten business days. A copy of any such response must be provided to this office. It is preferable to send an electronic copy of the response to this office at pre@sec.state.ma.us. Mr. Patzke may appeal the substantive nature of the City’s response within ninety days. See 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1).
