Assistant Corporation Counsel Office of the Legal Adviser City of Boston – Police Department 1 City Hall Square Boston, MA 02201 Dear Attorney O’Donnell: I have received the petition of Murat Erkan, Esq., of Erkan & Sullivan, PC, appealing the response of the Boston Police Department (Department) to a request for public records. See G. L. c. 66, § 10A; see also 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). On December 30, 2024, Attorney Erkan requested copies of the following records: [1] As to an [identified police officer]: Records regarding [the identified police officer’s] duty assignment, work log/calls for service, and any court slips for December 11, 2024. [2] Any and all electronic communications or other records of communication regarding [four identified persons]… On December 30, 2024, the Department acknowledged the request and assigned a reference number B003696-123024 for tracking purposes. On January 14, 2025, the Department provided Attorney Erkan with a response. Unsatisfied with the January 14th response, Attorney Erkan petitioned this office and this appeal, SPR25/0440, was opened as result. Subsequent to the opening of this appeal, I learned that the Department provided Attorney Erkan with a further response on February 21, 2025. Where this appeal was opened as a result of the Department’s January 14, 2025 response, I will consider this administrative appeal closed. Attorney Erkan may appeal the substantive nature of the Department’s February 21, 2025 response within ninety days. See 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1).
