The Commonwealth of Massachusetts William Francis Galvin, Secretary of the Commonwealth Public Records Division Manza Arthur Supervisor of Records March 10, 2025 SPR25/0608 Ann Marie Greene Principal Clerk Records Division Salem Police Department 95 Margin Street Salem, MA 01970 Dear Ms. Greene: I have received the petition of Sara Plansky, of Committee for Public Counsel Services, appealing the nonresponse of the Salem Police Department (Department) to a request for public records. See G. L. c. 66, § 10A; see also 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). On December 31, 2024, Ms. Plansky requested “...[a]ny CAD reports and corresponding notes for calls for service to [an identified address] in Salem from January 1, 2015 to present.” On January 2, 2025, Ms. Plansky amended her request and stated, “...[I] would like to narrow the time frame to January 1, 2020 to present. I am looking for incidents or calls involving people with the last name [identified individuals] or the name [an identified individual] which is the maiden name of [an identified individual].” Claiming to not yet have received responsive records, Ms. Plansky petitioned this office and this appeal, SPR25/0608, was opened as a result. Despite being notified of the opening of this appeal, it remains unclear whether the Department has provided a response. Accordingly, the Department is ordered to provide Ms. Plansky with a response to her request, provided in a manner consistent with this order, the Public Records Law and its Regulations within ten (10) business days. A copy of any such response must be provided to this office. It is preferable to send an electronic copy of the response to this office at pre@sec.state.ma.us. Ms. Plansky may appeal the substantive nature of the Department’s response within ninety (90) days. See 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1).
