The Commonwealth of Massachusetts William Francis Galvin, Secretary of the Commonwealth Public Records Division Manza Arthur Supervisor of Records April 15, 2025 SPR25/0936 Christine M. Wilda Associate Chancellor for Compliance University of Massachusetts, Amherst 340F Whitmore Building 181 President’s Drive Amherst, MA 01003 Dear Ms. Wilda: I have received the petition of Jonathan Gerhardson appealing the response of the University of Massachusetts Amherst (University) to a request for public records. See G. L. c. 66, § 10A; see also 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). On March 10, 2025, Mr. Gerhardson requested “any correspondence UMass has received from the Department of Education in the past 7 days.” Previous Appeal This request was the subject of a previous appeal. See SPR25/0832 Determination of the Supervisor of Records (April 3, 2025). In my April 3rd determination, I learned that the University provided Mr. Gerhardson with a supplemental response. Unsatisfied with the University’s response, Mr. Gerhardson petitioned this office and this appeal, SPR25/0936, was opened as a result. Subsequently, I learned that the University provided Mr. Gerhardson with a response on April 8, 2025. Where this appeal was opened as a result of the University’s April 3rd response, I will now consider this administrative appeal closed. Mr. Gerhardson may appeal the substantive nature of the University’s April 8th response within ninety (90) days. See 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). Sincerely, Manza Arthur Supervisor of Records cc: Jonathan Gerhardson One Ashburton Place, Room 1719, Boston, Massachusetts 02108 • (617) 727-2832 • Fax: (617) 727-5914 sec.state.ma.us/pre • pre@sec.state.ma.us
