The Commonwealth of Massachusetts William Francis Galvin, Secretary of the Commonwealth Public Records Division Manza Arthur Supervisor of Records October 6, 2025 SPR25/2799 Brigid Finnegan Executive Assistant to the General Counsel Office of the General Counsel Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department 200 Nashua Street Boston, MA 02114 Dear Ms. Finnegan: I have received the petition of Danny McDonald, of the Boston Globe, appealing the response of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department (Department) to a request for public records. See G. L. c. 66, § 10A; see also 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). On August 29, 2025, Mr. McDonald requested: [1] Any disciplinary records and internal affairs reports, or their equivalent, regarding former Suffolk sheriff’s . . . employee. [2] Any reports regarding any incidents involving any Suffolk sheriff’s employees and inmates at either the Nashua Street jail or South Bay House of Correction that occurred on July 7, 2025. The Department provided a response on September 15, 2025. Unsatisfied with the Department’s response, Mr. McDonald petitioned this office and this appeal, SPR25/2799, was opened as a result. Subsequently, I learned that the Department provided a further response to Mr. McDonald on October 1, 2025. Where the basis of this appeal was opened as a result of the Department’s September 15th response, I will now consider this administrative appeal closed. Mr. McDonald may appeal the substantive nature of the Department’s October 1st response within ninety (90) days. See 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1).
