Assistant Corporation Counsel Office of the Legal Advisor Boston Police Department 1 Schroeder Plaza Boston, MA 02120 Dear Attorney O’Donnell: I have received the petition of Darius Gibson appealing the nonresponse of the City of Boston Police Department (Department) to a request for public records. See G. L. c. 66, § 10A; see also 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1). On November 17, 2025, Mr. Gibson requested the following: [1] A copy of the firearm Identification card Application [sic] I mailed to [the Department] which was received via certified mail 10-21-25[;] [2] A copy of the denial letter of the above[.] Claiming to not yet have received responsive records, Mr. Gibson petitioned this office and this appeal, SPR25/3626, was opened as a result. Subsequently, I learned that the Department intends on providing a written response to Mr. Gibson. Accordingly, the Department is ordered to provide Mr. Gibson with said response in accordance with the Public Records Law, its Regulations and this order within ten business days. A copy of any such response must be provided to this office. It is preferable to send an electronic copy of the response to this office at pre@sec.state.ma.us. Mr. Gibson may appeal the substantive nature of the Department’s response within ninety days. See 950 C.M.R. 32.08(1).
