The Commonwealth of Massachusetts William Francis Galvin, Secretary of the Commonwealth Public Records Division Manza Arthur Supervisor of Records March 2, 2026 SPR26/0670 Grace Jung Director of Public Records City of Boston 1 City Hall Square, Room 615 Boston, MA 02201 Dear Ms. Jung: On February 26, 2026, this office received your petition on behalf of the City of Boston (City) seeking permission to charge for time spent segregating or redacting responsive records. G. L. c. 66, § 10(c); G. L. c. 66, § 10(d)(iv); see also 950 C.M.R. 32.06(4). As required by law, it is my understanding that the City furnished a copy of the petition to the requestor, Maya Shavit. G. L. c. 66, § 10(c); G. L.c. 66, § 10(d)(iv)(2). On February 12, 2026, Ms. Shavit requested, “…all emails in 2025 between any of the city-employed (or recently employed) individuals below to or copying any individuals with an email ending in @northeastern.edu and/or @simmons.edu.” Subsequently, in an email to the City on February 27, 2026, Ms. Shavit states, “[t]hank you for your time today and guidance. I would like to amend my records request under the Massachusetts Public Records Law.” In light of the above, it is unnecessary to opine on the City’s petition to charge for segregating or redacting responsive records. Sincerely, Manza Arthur Supervisor of Records cc: Maya Shavit One Ashburton Place, Room 1719, Boston, Massachusetts 02108 • (617) 727-2832• Fax: (617) 727-5914 sec.state.ma.us/pre • pre@sec.state.ma.us
